To develop the character of Sylvie, I took inspiration from classic horror  films and German magazine Sibyelle.

The puppets for the film were constructed from a handmade wired armature, plasticine clay, mohair, and resin.

S y l v i e

Sylvie is a young American girl, a child of refinement studying the arts. With a presence that is fragile in the innocence of her youth, she has the long limbed body and high carriage of a dancer. She wears a hand sewn night gown. 

M a t e r

This is Our Lady of Darkness, Mater Tenebrarum is mother to the mentally ill. She comes to those who are fragile, or predisposed to trauma. The Roman Goddess of childbirth, she speaks her ancient symbols in dreams.
