In the age of the Anthropocene, the context of human relation to the earth is at risk of becoming obsolete. In the current state of the world, the welfare of the individual and the fate of society depends on the rejuvenation of humanity. The catastrophe of climate change is a slow-burn issue. It is a too hot day in November, it’s flooding in Louisiana, its the knowledge that half of our carbon emissions have been created in the past 25 years. These issues can upend our comprehension of our place on this earth but they are not abstract, vague or distant. We are biding our time, as the earth faces its destruction we are confronted with our own mortality. The Anthropocene is our twilight days. While the paradox of late capitalism diminishes natural resources, the earth and its inhabitants are both increasingly at each others’ mercy. Upon this intersection, my work is directed toward a new perceptual awareness. The ideology that humankind has eclipsed nature and the sacred rhythm of the natural world - is the substance of earth’s eulogy. Taking inspiration from arcana tarot, studies in anatomy, subjects of divination, and the pathological body, my work is meant to confront the viewer in their own isolation. In our own solitary existence, our relation to this world is the life to which we provide meaning. A reflection on mortality, my piece is made for the individual, to ignite contemplation about their respective relation to the environment. In the current state of the world, people are at a loss and lacking the answers they are seeking. In the context of the climate crisis, this is the reality we will be left with.
